Charles ‘Chuck’ Mangione (November 29, 1940 – July 22, 2025)
Chuck’s career as an internationally acclaimed recording artist, flugelhorn player and composer began as a teenager in collaboration with his brother, Gap, when they formed the Jazz Brothers band. This early foundation laid the groundwork for a remarkable 60-year career that would include 30+ albums and 13 GRAMMY nominations, with Chuck taking home 2 GRAMMY awards.
Chuck’s love affair with music has been characterized by his boundless energy, unabashed enthusiasm and pure joy that radiated from the stage. His appreciation for his loyal worldwide fans was genuine.
Chuck won his first GRAMMY for “Bellavia” (Best Instrumental Composition category) which was named to honor his mother in 1977. Chuck’s second GRAMMY win was in 1979 for “The Children of Sanchez” in the Best Pop Instrumental Performance category.
During the late 70’s, Chuck received additional awards and accolades for his recordings. “Feels So Good” soared to No. 4 on Billboard Hot 100 in 1978 and earned him a nomination for Record of the Year at the 21st Grammy Awards, bringing Chuck to new heights.
Chuck composed and performed ‘Give It All You Got’ which was the theme song for the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York when the ‘Miracle on Ice’ USA Hockey Team won the Gold Medal.
In 2012, Chuck was among the initial class of inductees into the Rochester Music Hall of Fame which took place at the Eastman Theater in Rochester, New York.
Chuck’s generosity, humility and commitment to giving back were clearly seen through events like ‘Tarantella’ – a celebrity filled benefit for the Italian Earthquake Relief which included lifelong friends, Dizzy Gillespie, Chick Corea and Steve Gadd.
Chuck was a lifelong NY Yankee fan who had the opportunity to play the National Anthem at Yankee Stadium as well as multiple MLB All-Star games.
Innsbruck Records is honored to submit Chuck Mangione on behalf of his family to the Recording Academy for the 2026 GRAMMY Hall of Fame.
